The Evolution Of The Festival Since 2006
2006
The first edition of the festival began the 23/06 and ended the 25/06 and it was a true success, with approximately 20 000 entrants on 3 days. For this edition, the creative team hit hard with some big bands, KoRn (replaced by Dead To Fall), Mötorhead and Dead Kennedys in headlines and 69 other bands , responded on 2 stages during these 3 days.
2007
The second edition of the Hellfest took place beetween the 22/06 and the 24/06. In sign of the gain of importance of the festival a third scene has been created. The headlines on 2007 were KoRn (canceled at the las time), Type-O Negative and Emperor and more than 80 bands. Almost 40 000 metalheads were present.
2008
The 2008 edition is the edition of success with more than 45 000 people and a well-oiled organisation. During this edition, the festival grew a rank higher on the international scene with 50 nationalities and 35% of foreigners. For this year the headlines were Venom, Cavalera Conspiracy and Slayer. The trust of the Metal fans made Hellfest a true reference not only in France but all over the world. After 2008 the Hellfest just can't be ignore.
2009
In answer to the record of crowd of 2008, the 2009 edition gave to the fans a fourth stage and ledgendaries headlines : Mötley Crüe, Marylin Manson and Manowar. More than 60 000 fans were present, Hellfest is now a "rival" of the Wacken Open Air or the Rock Am Ring, and of course, Ben Barbaud aimed the top for the next edition.
2010
In 2010, and the first time ever, the festival was sold out with more than 70 000 entrants. On the mainstage we had Deftones, Alice Cooper and Kiss, worldwide known bands, and 115 other bands.
2011
Last year, the Hellfest was also sold out with approwimately 72 000 metalheads coming in France to see Iggy And The Stooges, Scorpions and Ozzy Osbourne. This edition was also marked by a tribute to the deceased socialist deputee Patrick Roy who was also a true fan of Heavy Metal and a defender of the Hellfest.
2012
The next edition, entitled "A New Battlefield" is changing place because of the construction of a high school next to the reserve place of the festival but at the displeasure of the detractors, the Hellfest stay in Clisson. The first bands were annouced the 29/09/2011. 44 were announced with, besides, Trivium and Dimmu Borgir. Last friday, the rumor of one headliner has been confirmed and it says that the band which almost create Metal, Black Sabbath (with it first line-up, Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Buttler and Bill ward) will be a part of the Hellfest.
